Bear Republic: Hop Rod Rye

Bear Republic right now is one of my favorite breweries because everything they make is super complex and full of flavor. This guy is no exception. This guy has a really sweet nose but is balanced out with a super bitter bite that tames that sweet nose and makes the beer go down smooth. The malt has a super caramel flavor that fills the mouth, making it seem as if you are drinking a Caramello candy bar with subtle hits of fruit that are undoubtedly coming from the hops. Speaking of the hops, the aroma and nose is a lot tamer than the other beers they make, but it reminds me of Northern Brewer Hops, giving the beer a nice bitter sweet flavor with a hint of fruitiness and that fills the nose and finish kind like an Anchor Steam. As far as alcohol content, this guy is like it’s brothers, another 8% bad boy that can knock you on your ass if you don’t watch out. The amount of sweetness and bitterness in this beer might scare some people away but trust me when I say, this is a nice beer. You just might not be able to have too many depending on your love of bitter beers.
