So, I went into K&L today during lunch and what do I find?… a new Belgian Ale from Russian River Brewery! Well, it is not a new ale, but it is new for K&L and me. Redemption. It is another great Belgian Ale from Vinnie Cilurzo at Russian River. It is a awesome golden ale with a spicy sweet nose with hints of bananas and cloves. It has a little sweetness in the mouth but finishes dry with a little bitter bite. I love these beers because they are just really complex and a joy to drink. This beer would go great with food and being that it doesn’t have a high alcohol content and is quite light, you can really pound these guys with your next meal. The bottle says this is a “singles” ale and goes on to say that “singles” are typically only brewed at the Trappist Monasteries in Belgium and it does have a lot of the flavor profile you would expect from something like a St Sebastiaan Golden Abbey Ale with all the standard Belgian spiciness but with a little bitter bite. Russian River beers are hard to come by so if you run across one of these make sure to pick up a couple for your next meal.
