Duvel

While I am on my Belgian Ale kick I decided to pick up one of the quintessential Belgian Ales, Duvel. This guy is pretty good. I would describe this guy as a mixture of a Pilsner and Belgian Ale. It is really light and blond, smells like a Pilsner, and even tastes like a Pilsner in the mouth but then you swallow and you are hit with the lusciousness of a spicy Belgian Ale with hints of cloves, spices and fruit. It is a magically complex beer. Really amazing how they are able to squeeze all these flavors and complexities into one beer, like a magical Unicorn galloping through a mystic misty field of deliciousness, shooting a fire hose of Pilsner all over your face while throwing caramelized banana chunks of goodness directly into your mouth…exactly like that… did I mention this beer is also 8.5% ABV… Anyways, this is a great beer for a nice hot summer day sitting around the pool or a BBQ. The only thing you have to worry about with this guy is drinking it too fast because of the high alcohol content and the sweetness. This guy is best savored slowly and with some food.
