A Grand Cru Ale is what breweries call their best of the best, and AleSmith’s Grand Cru lives up to the name. This guy is a dark spicy Belgian ale. It is on the sweet side, but it is perfectly balanced with what tastes like cloves and nutmeg and other spices. I am normally not the biggest fan of sweet beers, but the malt in this guy is complex, smooth and delicious…. This malt tastes like molasses and brown sugar deliciousness and it masks the 10% ABV so that you are not distracted by the high alcohol content. This is a great beer for the fall and winter months, well worth the ~11 bucks a bottle.
